Stand Firm and Stay Committed!

Stand Firm and Stay Committed!

By Pr Herna Kong

When He was sent into the world, Jesus was committed to do the will of the Father. Jesus was carrying out His Father’s command based on the mission He had received: Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (Matt. 20:28).

Jesus fulfilled this mission completely, and with unwavering obedience, despite the great risks involved. The Bible says: … Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Phil. 2:5-8)! Therefore, Paul urges every believer to imitate the Lord Jesus, who was obedient to the point of death on the cross! Under no circumstances are we to stop being firm, steadfast, unwavering, committed and increasingly active in serving the Lord.

Remaining true to Jesus may be difficult, discouraging, and at times, even dangerous, but it is never pointless or futile. The apostle Paul reminded the Corinthian Christians: Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain (1 Cor. 15:58). The author of Hebrews also said: For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do (Heb. 6:10).  God is just, so He will never forget the work we do for and the love we show to others for the glory of His name. Jesus even said: Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me (Matt. 25:40).

Therefore, let us continue to stand firm, be steadfast and stay committed in doing God’s work regardless of the outcome. Let us never get discouraged or disillusioned, and never waver or even give up altogether. Paul said: Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord (Rom. 12:11). Let us keep up our spirits because all our work for Him matters. People may forget our ministries or despise our ministries for God but He will not; He will remember and value our ministries. He has ready for us a reward for every effort we make and every deed we do for His glory. Man may disappoint us but God will never ever disappoint us, so stand firm and stay committed!

When the world does not remember, remember that God remembers.
