The Precious Truth

The Precious Truth

By Not Known

“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” Proverbs 30:5

There have been so much discussions on legislating and curbing the rampant rise of fake news recently. In the past, we used to take in good faith everything that is reported in the newspaper to be true.  Nowadays, news are circulated so widely via different media that it is no longer easy to ascertain what news is true and what is fake.  Who or what is the trustworthy source to establish the truth from falsehood?

God is truth and He is able to reveal the truth to us and shows us what is false or fake. Christians should thank God for His truth given to us in the Holy Scripture. The writer of Proverbs affirms that every word of God is flawless and He is a shield to keep us safe from troubles and deceits. The flawless word of God can be translated as being pure; tested, refined and proven true. It is the absolute truth which will shield us from subtle deceit, malicious word and doctrinal error.

Furthermore, Paul declared in 2 Tim 3:16 that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”.  When we pursue the word of God we are in fact, building a treasure of godly wisdom to guard us from deceitfulness, greediness and temptations.  The word of God points  us to falsehood and fake treasures, and to what is truly important.  Proverbs 30:8 is a prayer to be true to God: “Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.  Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, “Who is the Lord? Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonour the name of my God.”

Let us give priority in understanding and retaining the word of God in our hearts. Let us put in effort to have a daily intake of God’s word, and be serious to make this spiritual discipline into an enjoyable habit. Not only that, let us ask God to convince our hearts that his truth is more precious than gold and precious stones and to give us discernment to detect lies and falsehood. Let us plead with God that He will help us to fall in love with his word again. Lastly, let us call on God today to let his word dwell within us richly (Col. 3:16) and become our shield.
