When I buy an item, I have the right to use it for whatever purpose I wish. For example, I can use my laptop for typing my documents, checking emails or even entertaining myself by playing games on it. I can also give it away, if I so wish.

Who owns the earth and everything, including us, in it? The Lord! “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Ps. 24:1).Since the world and everything including us in it belong to God, whatever possessions we have naturally belong to Him. We are merely entrusted by Him to use and manage them.

Who is the Owner of our body? When we believe in Christ and follow Him, we become one spirit with Christ. Our body has been bought and the price fully paid by the blood of Christ, so our body is His dwelling place. “But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price” (1 Cor. 6:17, 19-20a).

What is Christ’s will for our body then? It is to honour God with it. It is to live holy lives by avoiding sexual immorality that defiles our body. It is to keep our thoughts, actions and feelings in harmony with His Word. It is not to grieve the Holy Spirit who lives in us. “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body…. Therefore honour God with your bodies” (1 Cor. 6:18, 20b).

Our body belongs to God, so honour God with it. Everything we have including our body and everything we use come from God, so be a good steward and use them to glorify Him, and bring blessings and joy to others. The good and faithful steward manages wisely everything that belongs to his master, which has been entrusted to him to manage.

Prayer:
Thank You, Lord, for choosing to buy me out of this world at a price. Make me Yours for ever, through my whole life, including my body. Amen.
