Why did Paul count those things he gained as loss?  What may we learn from this mindset?

What does “confidence in the flesh” refers to?  Did this give Paul a sense that he was more superior?

The contrast of the two groups in these two verses is stark; to whom was Paul referring to in verse 2?

The Apostle continues the call to rejoice: rejoicing is not just a proclamation but a practice.  How would you rejoice today?

Jesus took a genuine interest in our welfare.  Is there someone you can show a genuine interest in this week? How would you go about doing so?

How does Paul describe Timothy?  In the same way Epaphroditus is described in glowing terms also in v25-30.  Do you know of anyone like these men personally?  How do we nurture believers to behave in such virtuous ways?

In v15 Paul refers to a “crooked and depraved generation” and tells the Philippians how they should live in such a society (see Mt 10:16-20).  Are there any signs of our society going that way? Bring them to God in prayer.

What characteristics of the Christian life did Paul identify?  Do you see them in your life?

What does Paul say the Philippians should do whether he is among them or not? How are we to work out our salvation?  Who is helping us?

The Christian life is not about just reciting a creed,  it is living out what you believe.  How much is Jesus Lord of your life, and in what ways does it show?
