What has presenting “your requests to God” “by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving” to do with the peace of God (v7)?                

For whom are “requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving” requested (vv1,4,6,7)?  How does this relate to Jesus’ command in Matthew 5:43-48 to “pray for those who persecute you”?   

How do we view the importance of sound doctrine in us individually and in the church (vv10,11)?  What change/s in our daily practices and habits should we make to reflect this?

How should our response differ towards those who act in “ignorance and unbelief” (v13) and those who “had shipwrecked their faith” (v19)?  Why? 

How had Christ changed Paul?  How would Paul’s example (v16) affect others?  How can what Christ had done keep Timothy (and us) on the right course in the face of opposition from false teachers? 

How is the whole Old Testament law (v9, “weak and miserable principles”) fulfilled in the “law of Christ” (cf. 6:2)?  What implications do these have for us Christians and how do they affect our daily living in Christ?

What is the place of Old Testament law in our daily Christian life (cf.vv9-10) despite our salvation not dependent on keeping it?                

Where did the “certain men” (false teachers) go wrong (vv3-7)?  What was the goal of Timothy’s command (v5) and how does it differ from that of these false teachers?  Why?   

How does Jesus’ sympathy help us relate to Him and to God the Father?

How is the assurance of eternal life (v13) the key to (i) answered prayer (vv14-15); (ii) forgiveness of sin (vv16-17); (iii) deliverance from sin and evil (vv18-19); and (iv) avoidance of idolatry (v21)?
